Welcome to my Campaign page.
For the record, I didn't start my career planning to run for International office. I started as an apprentice, learning the trade, working with my tools, and building a career alongside my fellow brothers and sisters. Every leadership position I've held since then has been earned through the trust of the members I serve. Today, I'm asking for the opportunity to earn your trust and represent the Sixth District on the International Executive Council.

Meet David Carranco
My name is David Carranco, and I am a candidate for the IBEW Sixth District International Executive Council (IEC).
I currently serve as the Business Manager/Financial Secretary of IBEW Local Union 278 in Corpus Christi, Texas. We represent both Inside, Outside classifications. I am honored to have earned the trust of our members through open and democratic elections, and I work hard every day to represent the best interests of the men and women of our local union.
I will proudly represent Local 278 as a delegate to the 41st IBEW International Convention. This will be my second International Convention as a delegate after also being elected to attend the 40th International Convention in Chicago in 2022.
My IBEW Journey
My journey in the IBEW started 20 years ago on the jobsite.
I am a proud second generation IBEW member. A Journeyman Wireman and a proud graduate of the Texas Gulf Coast Apprenticeship Program. Like many of our members, I learned this trade by working hard, learning from experienced brothers and sisters, and taking pride in doing quality work.
Over the last 20 years, I have been an IBEW member in good standing and had the privilege of serving our Brotherhood in many different roles, including:

- Executive Board Member

- Field Organizer
- Apprentice Instructor
- Job Steward
- Foreman Development Series Instructor
- NFPA 70E Instructor
- Delegate to two IBEW International Conventions
- Delegate to the Texas State Association of Electrical Workers
- President of the South Texas Building & Construction Trades Council
- President of the Coastal Bend Labor Council
- Trustee for the Southwestern Health & Benefit Fund

Every opportunity I've had has been earned through hard work and the trust placed in me by my fellow members. I have never forgotten where I came from, and I never will.
Why I'm Running
I'm running because I believe the IBEW is the greatest Union in the world, and I want to help keep it strong for generations to come.
I believe every member deserves a strong voice at the International level. As the younger candidate in this race, I believe I can bring a fresh perspective while respecting the experience, traditions, and values that have made the IBEW the strongest electrical union in the world.
I am willing to step forward because I believe I have the experience, dedication, and leadership necessary to represent the rank-and-file members of the Sixth District. If elected, I will always put the best interests of the IBEW and the members we serve first.
What the International Executive Council Does
The International Executive Council plays an important role in helping ensure our Brotherhood is governed according to the IBEW Constitution and the democratic principles on which our union was founded.
The decisions made by the IEC affect local unions and members throughout our Brotherhood, which is why I believe every delegate deserves the opportunity to choose who serves in these important leadership positions.
Why This Election Matters
The IBEW was founded on the principles of democracy, fairness, and accountability. Our members built this union by believing that leaders should earn the confidence of those they represent.
I want to be clear: I am not running because of the current IEC member's record or reputation. This campaign is about giving delegates a choice and encouraging greater participation in our democratic process.
Our International Convention is held every five years. In many cases, International leadership positions are uncontested, meaning delegates are not given a choice between candidates. When vacancies occur before a term is completed, the IBEW Constitution provides a process for filling those positions through appointment.
While those appointments are made according to our Constitution, I believe our Brotherhood is strongest when delegates have the opportunity to elect their leaders whenever possible. More contested elections encourage member involvement, strengthen accountability, and reinforce the democratic principles on which our Union was founded.
My Vision for the Sixth District
If elected to the International Executive Council, I will work every day to:
- Put the members first.
- Protect our pensions and benefit funds.
- Support strong apprenticeship and training programs.
- Help grow market share and create more union work.
- Defend collective bargaining and workers' rights.
- Promote transparency, accountability, and open communication.
- Listen to local unions before decisions are made.
- Help prepare and mentor the next generation of IBEW leaders.
- Represent every local union in the Sixth District with fairness, integrity, and respect.
A Campaign About Unity
This campaign is not about creating divisions within our Brotherhood.
It is about strengthening our democratic process, encouraging greater participation, and ensuring every delegate has the opportunity to choose the leaders they believe will best represent our membership.
No matter the outcome of this election, we will all continue working together for the same purpose, to make the IBEW stronger than ever.
My Commitment
As the elected Business Manager of Local 278, I stand for election every three years. If our members believe I'm doing a good job, they re-elect me. If they believe someone else can do a better job, they have the opportunity to make that choice.
I believe that same principle should continue at every level of our Brotherhood.
Leadership should be earned. Representation should be elected.
I cannot do this alone. At the 41st IBEW International Convention, every delegate has the opportunity to help shape the future of our Brotherhood.
